THIRTEEN
Released April 2, 2002
Frankie Moreno’s THIRTEEN is a dynamic fusion of funk and rock, marking the end of his Nashville chapter before his move to Las Vegas. This album sees Moreno leaning into his bluesy rock sound, stepping away from his earlier country-tinged vintage style. With its gritty grooves and powerful riffs, this captures the essence of Moreno’s musical evolution, blending soulful funk with raw rock energy in a collection of tracks that highlight his versatility and bold artistic direction.

INSIDE THE ALBUM with Frankie:
I recorded this entire album over the course of two days in Nashville. At the time, I was working almost daily as a studio musician, and one of my regular spots was Greyhouse, right on Music Row, next to Chet Atkins’ old office.
For the sessions, I brought in the studio musicians I’d been working with regularly. We had great chemistry, which made the process seamless. It was also my first time recording using Pro Tools, the music software that’s now the industry standard. Before that, everything I’d done was on tape or ADAT.
As soon as we finished the recordings, I moved to Vegas and completed the vocals in a local studio. This album became really important because it was my first release while living in Vegas, and it served as my introduction to the city. The album’s eclectic sound allowed me to avoid being boxed into any one genre, which was perfect.
I named the album “13” simply because it had 13 songs, and the number has always been my favorite.
