INSIDE THE ALBUM with Frankie:
This album was born out of a realization that, over the years, despite our diverse musical explorations and the various genres we dabbled in, critics consistently labeled us as “Blues.” I guess it’s because, in an era dominated by computerized music and sampling, we’ve stayed true to using real instruments on almost all our recordings—horns, piano, electric guitar, and more. That instrumentation naturally lends itself to a bluesy vibe.
As we started charting regularly on the blues charts, it felt like the universe was nudging us to embrace it. So, we thought, why not give them a full-fledged blues album? I have a deep love for the blues. Honestly, it’s the foundation of everything we do, so it made perfect sense.
We gathered at my house, and the album came together organically, just us having fun, jammin’, and letting the music flow. While I usually stick to rhythm guitar, I decided to take on all the lead work for this album, which was a new challenge for me. The process moved quickly, and when we finally released it, Back to the Boogie shot straight to Number 1 on the Billboard Blues Charts with a bullet.
