Frankie Moreno’s HAWAIIAN HONEY is a heartfelt homage to the island vibes that inspire him. Spending much of his free time in Hawaii, Moreno channels his deep love for the island into this collection, which features a mix of classic reggae covers and a few original tracks. The album’s standout is his rendition of “Don’t Worry Be Happy,” a track that has garnered him nearly 400 million listens on TikTok. This is a soothing, rhythmic celebration of reggae sounds, infused with Moreno’s signature style.

INSIDE THE ALBUM with Frankie:
Hawaii has always held a special place in my heart. It’s the one destination where I can truly unwind, leaving behind the constant focus on songwriting and performing. Over the years, I’ve visited frequently, often jumping on a Harley to ride around the island, soaking in its sheer beauty. But during one particular visit, a song idea kept nudging at me.
Before heading out on my usual ride late 2019, I stopped at one of my favorite coffee spots, Island Vintage. They have this coffee called the Hawaiian Honey Latte, which caught my eye. Personally, I’m a fan of the Island Latte with coconut milk, but “Hawaiian Honey” sounded like it could make a great song title. As I rode around the island, the song practically wrote itself. When I got back, I shared it with my brother Tony, and we immediately dove into creating an entire album around this theme.
It was now early March 2020, and I took my parents to Oahu for a vacation. We wanted to be in Hawaii to celebrate the album’s release on the 13th. It was an incredible experience—sitting on the beach, listening to the recordings as the waves rolled in. Life felt perfect, and we were gearing up for a big national tour to promote these new releases that were quickly becoming hits. But everything changed when we returned to Vegas on the evening of the 16th. Just before midnight, we learned that the world was going into lockdown for Covid-19. Our tour vanished overnight, and all the hard work we’d put into the records seemed to disappear. It was a devastating and challenging time, just as it was for everyone.
Despite the setbacks, “Hawaiian Honey” still managed to reach #2 on the iTunes Reggae Charts and #5 on the Billboard World Music Charts. We feared it might be the end of our momentum. I started going live on Facebook once a week, sharing a new song I’d written during the unexpected downtime. It was heartening to connect with people through music, offering a break from the monotony of lockdown. The online community grew beyond our expectations, and soon we realized there was an opportunity to do something meaningful.
Instead of just singing a new song on social media each week, we decided to release a new single every week, donating all the proceeds to frontline workers and first responders battling the pandemic. And so, for the next 120 weeks, every Thursday night, we wrote, recorded, and released a new song. The fans supported us, the songs topped the charts, and we all celebrated briefly before waking up to start the next one. Through it all, we did our part to help navigate the challenges of Covid-19. It still fills my heart when I go into Island Vintage and see the “Hawaiian Honey” album on display.
