INSIDE THE ALBUM with Frankie:
I had been working with Sony Records in New York while flying back to Vegas for shows, but things weren’t moving fast enough for me. I was getting antsy. So, I decided to move back to Vegas permanentaly, and signed a four-year residency deal as the headliner at The Stratosphere. The show quickly gained a lot of attention from both locals and tourists, becoming a hit. Every celebrity you could imagine came to see our show, which was pretty cool.
One night, the entire cast of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars came to watch. Lacey Schwimmer, one of the pro dancers, filmed us performing the song “Tangerine Honey” and sent it to the producers. They immediately asked us to perform it live on the show.
At the time, the recording was still in demo form on an album that was supposed to be produced by Sony, which meant we wouldn’t have a version available for sale when people saw me perform it on TV. I had to act fast. I asked to be released from our contract with Sony and decided to make a full album on my own, ensuring we’d have something ready for the audience once they saw the performance.
We recorded “Tangerine Honey” along with other songs from our Vegas show and handed it over to Pat Thrall for mixing and mastering. We released the album within a month—just in time for its release when I performed on Dancing With The Stars.
