INSIDE THE ALBUM with Frankie:
Growing up, Elvis Presley’s music was a constant in our home. My dad was a huge fan, and Elvis was practically all he played. The house was filled with posters and memorabilia, so I was heavily influenced and inspired by Elvis from an early age. As I developed musically, learning different instruments and styles, there was always one common thread: Elvis.
During my teenage years, it became challenging to establish my own identity, as the Elvis influence was so strong. I found myself changing my style and look drastically to avoid being pigeonholed and to ensure people saw me for who I was, not just through the lens of Elvis.
Once I had made a name for myself, I felt comfortable reintroducing that Elvis vibe back into my music. It was always there, just waiting. One day, we decided to record an album of his songs. It was a daunting task—his sound is so recognized, and reinterpreting such iconic material can be risky. But we jumped in, staying true to the originals for the most part, with a few exceptions. I’m very happy with how it turned out.
Occasionally, we even include one of his songs in our live shows now, just for fun. Elvis IS Rock ‘n’ Roll. From his sound to his look. I am forever a fan. He set the example, and without him, I wouldn’t have even started playing music.
